About project

The theater company Tantehorse in cooperation with Palác Akropolis is preparing on the 7th to the 11th of September a unmatched annual international festival and conference of documentary theater. The Theater of today, over five days, will present companies that combine interest on current social questions and see theater as an important tool for their communication. Audiences can look forward to performances full of authentic stories, testimony, and documentary material, which produces strong and emotive theatrical experiences.

• Hotel Europa (PT) is an international innovative and provocative theater company that utilizes authentic stories, interviews and real documentaries and subsequently crafts those sources into theater productions.
• Haibo Illés and Richárd Melykó (HU) is a Hungarian artistic collective known for their work walking the line between documentary theater, performance, and multimedia art. Their work often focuses on social and political themes, in which they utilize a variety of story-telling, in order to bring new perspectives to current events.
• Jeries Abu Jaber (PS) is a current Palestinian artist, who, through the eyes of a young man, turns to the artistry of his homeland and the social life in her.
• NIE Theater (NO, CZ, GBR) specializes in telling stories often inspired by true events and personal experiences. Their creation into theater combines storytelling as well as visual and physical elements.
• Holubová, Kočárková, Štarhová (CZ) focuses on documentary theater, which combines elements of true stories, personal witness, and historical events..
• Spitfire Company (CZ) in its projects focuses on current social and political themes. Their work reflects current problems and challenges, which open space for dialogue and thought.
• Tantehorse (CZ) is a company known for its innovative and interdisciplinary approach, which combines movement theater, dance, visual art and elements of documentary theater.

Part of the festival will be a Conference: current forms of documentary film, which is focused on the investigation of documentary theater as a path for societal changes, which has the power to address systemic inequality and serves as a tool for the communication of personal and historical changes. The first block will have creators from Czechia, Fance, Hungary, Norway, and Palestine who will speak on their approaches to creating and their views on documentaries. The second block of the conference offers a debate on the role of documentaries with respect to politics and activism. Thanks to the participation of guests from journalism, literature, theater, performance, and modern history, the audience will have a chance to investigate the specific position of documentaries in each branch. The conference will take place the 8th of September at 1:30 PM in the Scout institute on the Old Town Square.
