Markéta Vacovská is a Czech Choreographer, dancer, and performer working in Prague and in Plzen. She studied Nonverbal Theater at the Academy of Musical Arts in Prague.
Since 2009, she has been a member of the internationally recognized troupe Spitfire Company, with which she has created more than ten productions as a performer and/or as a choreographer. For the piece One Step Before the Fall, which was created under her direction as choreographer under the banner of Spitfire Company together with the director Petr Boháč and the musician Lenka Dusilová, received many domestic and international awards, including the title of Dancer of the Year within the festival Czech Dance platform, The Herald Angel Award (Edinburgh Fringe), the Theater News reward and the Next Wave award for choreography, the prestigious Aerowaves Priority Companies 2014, and a wider nomination for the Thálie award. For her original project Odloučení (Farewell), which was born from the author’s need to speak about the taboo subject of the death of a Child, she received in tandem with the musician Sára Vondrášková aka NEVER SOL an award within the Czech Dance Platform festival for exceptional work and interpretation and a wider nomination for the Thálie award 2022.
As a performer and Choreographer she worked with many other Czech groups, including Divadlo Kolonie, Studio Hrdinů, Tantehorse, Cirkus Mlejn, Cirkus TeTy, and the Plzen-based Tuto Cirk.
Currently, she is the cocreator of the dance community DanceWell, where she acts as one of the dance teachers for people (not only) with Parkinson’s disease. She actively participates on the creation of a performative project under the direction of the Tantehorse troupe, together with Miřenka Čechová. Furthermore, she works as a field worker for the early care program of the organization TADY A TEĎ, o. p. s.
